I often find myself thinking about how easy it is for good people to drift.
Not reckless people. Not lazy people. Not people who don’t care.
Capable people.
People with responsibilities, talent, heart, and good intentions. People trying to build something meaningful while staying true to themselves.
Life drags on them. And they drift.
I’ve seen it in entrepreneurship, leadership, coaching, my courses, the Little Engines community, and in countless conversations with people navigating change. I’ve seen strong people quietly lose touch with themselves while still showing up for everyone else.
The longer I do this work, the more convinced I become of one simple truth:
Realignment isn’t a solo practice.
That is the heart of why I created the REAL Success Crew.
Drift rarely looks dramatic at first
Most people do not suddenly choose a life that no longer fits. Drift usually happens gradually.
A compromise here. A delay there. A season of pushing through. A dream put on hold until things settle down. A version of success accepted because it looks right on paper, even if it feels wrong inside.
That’s what makes drift hard to catch. It often hides inside responsibility. It can look like being dependable while becoming disconnected, or ambitious while losing your centre.
I don’t think drift happens because people are weak. More often, it happens because they’re carrying too much for too long under pressure, uncertainty, and old narratives that still shape how they see themselves.
Isolation makes everything heavier
When people are isolated, doubt gets louder. Pain gets more persuasive. Overthinking feels wiser than it is. Old narratives start sounding like truth.
I’ve seen people spend months wrestling privately with something that becomes clearer in one honest conversation.
Not always easier, but clearer.
That matters, because clarity is often what helps people recognize what’s draining them and begin to move again. Left alone too long, we can normalize what is hurting us, confuse endurance with alignment, and keep circling the same thoughts without real traction.
That’s one of the reasons community matters so much to me. Not performative community. Real community. The kind where people can be honest, dignity stays intact, and reflection is supported by encouragement, perspective, and accountability.
Accountability works better when it is grounded in dignity
A lot of people hear “accountability” and think pressure.
That has never been my vision.
The kind of accountability I believe in is rooted in dignity. It does not ask you to perform. It asks you to tell the truth. It does not treat you like a problem to fix. It helps you reconnect with what matters and take the next honest step.
Pressure can create motion, but not always meaningful motion. People can hustle their way further out of alignment just as easily as they can drift there.
Dignity-based accountability creates room for honesty without humiliation. It helps people face what is real, release what is no longer serving them, and recommit to what matters most.
Alignment is a practice, not a destination
Alignment is not something we achieve once and keep forever.
It is a practice.
It is something we return to after disappointment, growth, conflict, success, grief, and seasons of overextension.
That does not mean we are failing. It means we are human.
The goal is not to build a perfectly drift-proof life. The goal is to notice sooner, release what is no longer serving us, REALign with what matters most, and recommit before temporary disconnection becomes a permanent way of living.
That rhythm has shaped so much of my work, and it is what led me to create the REAL Success Crew.
